2010 Plant Tour |
OCMA Officers, Trustees, Key Contacts, Environmental Affairs & HR Committees, and Members:
This is the kind of "March Madness" that I really like: three Big Ten teams in the Sweet 16! We could have three in the Great 8 by the end of today, or not. Got those fingers crossed. Too bad about Xavier, but what a great battle. They just don't get much better than that. Basketball not your thing? I drove by a billboard in Cincy yesterday that touted the fact that Opening Day for the Reds is only 10 days away. Can hardly wait. Of course, the upcoming Masters is bigger than life this year with Tiger's return to the tour. That should be verrrry interesting! So what does this all add up to? A perfect segue to the upcoming OCMA annual foundry tour, always a popular event.
This year OCMA members will have the opportunity to tour the Burnham Foundry LLC in Zanesville. The green sand foundry is a leading supplier of boiler castings for more than 80 years. The foundry melts with a modern cupola and pours both gray and ductile iron from 10 to 500 lbs. It has three molding lines; a 2070B Disamatic, Airset Molding, and Osborne cope & drag. Burnham Foundry LLC also makes castings for the automotive and stadium seating industries.
A couple of important facts you may not know about Burnham Foundry LLC. In 2007 it received an Honorable Mention in the AFS Casting of the Year Competition for a modern heat exchanger that replaced a labor-intensive weldment. For you World War II buffs, Burnham Foundry received the Army-Navy E for Excellence award for its production of "hand grenades". Boy, have the times changed. I am looking forward to this tour and hope you are too.
As with previous tours, we will tour the two facilities in two shifts on Thursday, April 29, 2010, an AM shift and a PM shift. The AM shift will begin with an orientation meeting at 9:15 AM. Lunch for everyone will be held at the Zanesville Country Club beginning at 11:30 AM. The PM shift for both foundries will begin soon after the luncheon with orientation beginning at approximately 12:45 PM.
Detailed instructions concerning parking, entering the grounds and facility, a map and/or directions to the facility and to the Zanesville Country Club, and other tour info will be e-mailed to meeting registrants just prior to the tour date. We are asking tour registrants to bring their own hardhats and PPE. There will be a few hats and PPE for those who forget theirs, but there will not be enough for everybody so please bring yours. And please, no tennis or open-toed shoes.
Please return the enclosed registration form along with a $50 check for each registrant to cover expenses as soon as possible but not later than Friday, April 23, 2010. Please note, you will be invoiced for lunch expenses if you make a reservation and do not cancel at least 48 hours in advance.
