OCMA Events January 2010 Meeting |
OCMA Officers, Trustees, Key Contacts, Environmental Affairs & HR
Committees, & Members:
Season's Greetings from the Ohio Cast Metals Association. We wish you the very best this Holiday Season and hope that you will have the opportunity to spend this special time with family and friends. My only wish is that the U. S. economy gets off the mat and makes a boisterous comeback in 2010. I lied. I am also rooting for bowl victories for the University of Cincinnati, Ohio University, and The Ohio State University.
Speaking of football. Susan and I were lucky to be sitting in the Canton Hall of Fame stadium a week ago last Saturday for the Division I High Scholl Football Championship game. What a barnburner! For those of you that missed it, it featured the Hilliard Davidson coach going for broke, a two point play, with less than a minute to play. Ironically, Susan and I were there three years ago when the same coach made the same call with the same result. That has got to be a record of some kind. Speaking of records, the next meeting of the Ohio Cast Metals Association (OCMA) to be held on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, is destined to be one of our best. The meeting will start with lunch at 11:30 AM in Room E-151 and the general membership meeting will be held in Room E-150.
This meeting announcement is a little bit later than usual because we were waiting for a response to our invite to likely gubernatorial candidate and former congressman, John Kasich. Unfortunately, he will not be able to make this meeting, but left the door open for a meeting later this year. As a result, we have invited former Speaker of the House, now Senator Jon Husted and candidate for Ohio Secretary of State to speak, but we will not know whether he can make it or not until early in January. Sorry. However, we do have two excellent speakers who are going to address two very important subjects.
W. Jonathan Airey, Partner, Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, will discuss recent and future developments in the natural gas industry that are expected to affect supplies and prices of natural gas in the future. Specifically, he will be talking about the Rockies Express pipeline and new shale gas exploration in the U.S. Kelly McGivern, President & CEO of the Ohio Association of Health Plans, will be addressing the issue of the day -- President Obama's health reform bill. Several of you will remember Kelly who previously was the environmental guru at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. I am confident that she will be able to answer all of your questions about what impact a health reform bill may have on you and your company. We will also have a brief discussion about the opportunities available for lowering electricity costs through demand response programs. Additionally, Larry Boyd, EIO, will provide a brief update on the DOE energy programs. Finally, OCMA Vice President for Environmental Affairs Ryan Burke, OSCO Industries, Inc., will outline his environmental update. (See attached agenda)
Please return the attached registration form along with a $50 check for each registrant by Friday, January 22, 2010, so we can plan accordingly. Please note, you will be invoiced for expenses if you make a reservation and do not cancel at least 48 hours in advance. We are charged by the convention center for each guaranteed participant after the 48 hours and cannot reduce this number after the deadline.
